GCHD Animal Resource Center in desperate need for fosters, adoptions

Galveston County Health District Animal Resource Center (ARC) is bursting at the seams with animals waiting to be fostered or adopted by their forever families.

“We are 100 percent full. Please help,” said Amber Adams, ARC director of animal services. “If you have room for one more in your house – whether you adopt or foster – please come by and see us.”

Spring time is known as puppy and kitten season, but this season has been the worst seen in four-five years, Adams said. These animals are looking for a second chance.

ARC, along with many other animal shelters in the region, is battling for space as the dogs and cats keep coming in daily. Adams said staff is pleading for help from the community to help solve this problem.

“First, please spay and neuter your pets. The flood of dogs and cats into ARC and area animal shelters is solely due to the lack of spay and neuter,” Adams said. “There is a pet overpopulation in the region that needs to be addressed.”

ARC needs immediate help finding adopters and fosters for these animals. Adoption fees range from $85 to $42.50, $20 to free. Long-term animals can have their adoption fee waived with the use of the Sponsor A Heart fund, supported by generous donors. There is currently a wide range of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens (all ages, all sizes, all colors) ready and waiting to meet their future families.

If adoption is not an option, consider fostering – even if it’s just for a day trip or a weekend. Please contact ARC for details on how to become a foster parent. They will match foster parents with a great fit for their lifestyle and household.

ARC is located at 3412 25th Ave. North (Loop 197 North) in Texas City. For information call (409) 948-2485 or email arc@gchd.org.
