GCHD Hurricane Ike Executive Summary

 
Bolivar Peninsula
  • Restore Bolivar Peninsula - Citizens have joined together to ensure that Bolivar will be restored to not only it's former self, but a new and improved Bolivar. They have formed 14 committees to address the important issues they must face to bring back their lives on Bolivar. For information visit their website at www.restorebolivar.com/bb/.

  • Here is a link to approved on-site sewage system installers for Galveston County.

Galveston County Public Health Services
  • Phone Bank for Galveston Island -The Health District can provide information on many services for information call the GCHD Contact Center at  (409) 938-7221.
  • Disease Reporting - report any injuries, deaths, or suspected diseases related to Hurricane Ike to Epidemiology at (409) 938-2322.
  • Food & Environmental Health - report concerns to Environmental Health at (409) 938-2411. 

  • Public Health Lab - open and testing water samples submitted by various water systems. For information call (409) 938-2449.
  • Public education, outreach, and Immunizations - request for community assistance at (409) 938-2456.
  • Animal Services - The Joe Vickery Animal Shelter is open and providing all services.  Call (409) 948-2485 for more information.
  • WIC Nutrition Services  - The Dickinson, Texas City and Galveston Island Community Center WIC clinics are open and providing services.  The University Hospital Clinics location is still closed but clients are being seen at the Island Community Center.   • EMS 911 and Non-Emergency Transfer - all services are operational. For information call 938-2424.

Healthcare Resources - many public and private medical services have been impacted by Hurricane Ike. Below are updates as services become available:

  • 4C's Clinics  - The clinics located in Galveston and Texas City are open and operating normal hours. To schedule an appointment call (409) 938-2234 or (281) 309-0255.  For additional information on the 4C's clinics visit their webpage.  
  • Public Immunizations - GCHD Immunization clinics are open and providing vaccinations and flu shots to the public.  For more information, contact (409) 938-2456.
    • Island Community Center, 4700 Broadway, Galveston, Monday 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Texas City Immunization Clinic, 2000 Texas Ave,  Monday-Wednesday-Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Dickinson Immunization Clinic, 905 FM 517 E, Tuesday-Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Emergency Rooms  - UTMB Galveston is not fully operational and their Emergency Room is providing limited services.  Mainland Hospital and Emergency Room is open. For more information, contact those entities
