The Galveston County Health District wants you well.
The district doesn’t want you to weigh down the health care system with ailments such as heart disease, which in some cases can be prevented. It doesn’t want your health care premiums to rise in order to cover the cost of you and others who did not live healthier lives. So, the health district has launched a campaign to get people more active and living well.
Have you seen the billboards? One on Interstate 45 and one on state Highway 146 remind drivers to take care of themselves while introducing a helpful website. The website wellru.org offers calorie counters, healthy recipes and information on healthy eating. The site also has information on keeping active and kicking bad habits.
According to the health district, county health rankings show the percentage of Galveston County adults who are obese and who smoke exceed the statewide average.
So, chances are those billboards are reaching out to you. Do your part to stay healthy.
