Hours change at Joe Vickery Animal Shelter 

Galveston County and Cities – The Galveston County Health District’s Joe Vickery Animal Shelter will soon have new hours of operation to better serve the public.   

Effective February 8th for residents needing services such as animal redemptions, adoptions, pet surrenders and purchasing of county animal licenses, the shelter located at 3412 Loop 197 North in Texas City will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 12 noon - 6 p.m.  The shelter will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.   

In the event assistance is needed with stray animals or response to a dog bite animal control officers will be available as usual by calling (409) 948-2485 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.  On Saturdays this assistance will be available 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.  After hours, citizens may call their local law enforcement.   Animal control officers on call are available to assist residents and local law enforcement officials that may be responding to emergency situations involving vicious animals.  

The changes have been reviewed and approved by the District’s Animal Services Advisory Committee, formed under inter-local agreement between the County and participating cities.
