The Galveston County Health District is planning a one-day conference on September 17th at Moody Gardens on Galveston Island. The conference will be partially funded by a Social Service Block Grant awarded to GCHD through DSHS.
The conference, "Riding the Waves: An Island of Strategies for STD's, HIV, and TB" is being designed to educate public health officials and the medical community on current and future strategies to prevent and control the spread of these infectious diseases. The Conference will also provide a Thursday evening networking opportunity for local health authorities, public health and medical professionals. Plans are to make the conference available for up to 300 attendees at a nominal fee.
Two nationally-recognized motivational keynote speakers have been scheduled that will address relevant topics such as potential impacts of healthcare reform, legislative issues, and health related implications of disasters. In addition, topic experts will speak on cutting-edge prevention and treatment strategies for STD's, HIV and TB.
Topic appropriate exhibitors are also being sought for this conference.
