GALVESTON — Two federal programs are to spend almost $217,000 making nine Galveston properties safe from lead poisoning in separate contracts approved on the nod by Galveston City Council on Thursday.
In a no-cost-to-the-city deal, the Office of Healthy Homes and the Lead Hazard Control Grant Lead Safe Environment Program will pay for remedial work at the homes.
The $216,800 deal also is good for local companies. Sterling Patrick, the city’s director of housing, told the council that all but one of the contracts has been awarded to a local contractor.
The costs for each property range from $15,770 at 308 17th St. to $44,081 at 2205 33rd St.
The other seven homes to benefit from the program are at 1218 35th St., 4021 Ave. N, 3728 Ave. N, 1109 29th St., 3428 Ave. M, 2218 33rd St. and 1823 Ave. M½.
