SANTA FE —
Continued improvements in the arena of animal services and a new Animal Resource
Center will be the focus of this year’s Animal Summit and Expo on Saturday in
Santa Fe.
The annual summit is an effort of the Galveston County
Health District and members of the Galveston County Animal Services Advisory
Committee.
Those expected to attend include county and city
elected officials, members of the Galveston County United Board of Health and
individuals interested in animal services provided in Galveston County.
The summit will include a discussion about the new
Galveston County Animal Resource Center, which is being built in Texas City.
There also will be information on preparing for
hurricane season with an emphasis on what to do with pets, along with
information on pet disease prevention and control.
The health district works under a five-year “Strategic
Health Plan” that is designed to make measurable improvements in the health of
Galveston County. The new Animal Resource Center, which will have more than
twice the capacity of the existing shelter, is listed as a priority in the plan.
“We are more than excited that in the near future our
animal services will be working out of a new state-of-the-art facility,” Dr.
Mark Guidry, the health district’s CEO and Galveston County Health Authority,
said.
“Of course, we thank the voters for approving bonds for
the construction of the new Animal Resource Center, which has been needed for
quite some time.”
