LA MARQUE, Texas -- La Marque Independent School District students will return home from school Tuesday with a potentially frightening letter for their parents, KPRC Local 2 reported.

A boy at La Marque Middle School, 1431 Bayou Road, may have died from meningitis.  Dandre Alexander, 15, died Saturday at Texas Children's Hospital.

The Harris County Medical Examiner's Office said Alexander died from "brain herniation secondary to meningitis."

The hospital is still waiting on blood work.

"We have provided a letter to the La Marque School District because this isn't the time for parents to panic or anything. We state that we will be doing the investigation and we're looking for any close intimate contact," said Kurt Koopmann, public information officer for the Galveston County Medical District.

Symptoms of meningitis are similar to having the flu, which include headaches, nausea, vomiting and sometimes a rash.
