MARQUE — The Galveston County Health District’s Office of Environmental Health
Programs will hold its fourth annual Environmental Summit Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The summit will be in the Wayne Johnson Community Center at Carbide Park, 4102
FM 519, in La Marque.
In a process that began with the first summit in 2004, the district’s staff is
continually working to improve environmental services provided to the community.
Those expected to attend the summit include county and city elected officials,
members of the Galveston County United Board of Health and local individuals
interested in environmental services provided in Galveston County.
“The environmental summit is a perfect way for us to get input and ideas from
the community and elected officials,” Ronnie Schultz, director of environmental
programs, said.
“By gathering ideas from the community, we can continue to improve the services
our dedicated staff members provide to the residents of Galveston County.”
The focus of this year’s summit will be storm water pollution management plans
that every community is required to have.
Participants will examine these plans and how they will help reduce the impact
of pollution in Galveston County waterways.
It will be a great opportunity for the public to ask questions about the
County’s Storm Water Pollution Management Plan.
Dr. Mark Guidry, chief executive officer of the Galveston County Health
District, said “community input will allow staff to meet goals that were
established in a Strategic Health Plan adopted in 2004.
“The plan, approved by the Galveston County United Board of Health, is designed
to make measurable improvements in the health of Galveston County.”
The plan can be found on the District’s Web site at gchd.org.
