Local EMS Medical Director Recognized

Press Release
June 02, 2006

La Marque — Dr. Russell K. Miller, Medical Director for the Galveston Area Ambulance Authority (GAAA) was recently recognized by the Greater Houston EMS Council as Medical Director of the Year.  The award was presented at a dinner held annually by the Council.

In addition to serving as Medical Director for the GAAA, Dr Miller is also the Medical Director for all emergency services and fire department first responders in Galveston County.  According to Dr. Miller, “It has taken us twenty years but we have a very unified service in the county with one standard of care for all emergency medical services.”

In addition to serving as Medical Director for all emergency services in the county Dr. Miller is also an Associate Professor of Surgery in the division of Emergency Medicine at UTMB, and is also Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Clear Lake Regional Hospital.  The consumer guide, “America’s Top Doctors” has also recognized Miller in 2004, 2005, 2006 as one of the finest physicians in the United States.

Under Dr. Miller’s direction residents of Galveston County can count on quality service when in need of emergency medical service.  In recent years several county EMS providers that he serves have received recognition as EMS Providers of the year; Forest Bend EMS, Galveston EMS, Clear Lake Emergency Corp, and League City EMS which has been honored twice.

Dr. Miller explains that the care provided by first responders and EMS providers is essential to a healthy community.  “Pre-hospital care is an element of public health and public health is a mainstay of our healthcare system and helping our citizens when in need.  What greater calling can there be than helping your fellow man in times of crisis?”
