Health district to stage Senior Summit Oct. 26

Texas City – The Galveston County Health District will stage a
“Senior Summit” this month in Texas City.
City and county elected officials will be joined at the summit by members of the
Galveston County United Board of Health and representatives from local
organizations that work with senior citizens and local individuals interested in
services provided to seniors in Galveston County.
“We encourage all seniors and those that are interested in senior services to
attend the summit,” said Dr. Mark Guidry, the health district’s chief executive
officer. “We work closely with community partners to address the needs of many
populations and we are looking forward to this opportunity that hopefully will
assist us in addressing the needs of local senior citizens.”
Officials expect to gather information to assist in identifying senior health
issues to be addressed in the county’s strategic health plan.
Included in the summit agenda is an update on emergency management goals to
address special needs during evacuations. A public feedback session will also be
conducted and plans are being made to provide flu shots and other health
screenings to participants.
The strategic health plan is a tool designed to make improvements in the health
of Galveston County through the year 2010. More information can be found at
