Health District Plans
Senior Services Summit
La Marque – Officials with the Galveston
County Health District are examining ways to improve services and meet the needs
of local senior citizens. As part of this effort a “Senior Summit” will be
held October 26th at the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center located
at 2010 5th
Avenue North in Texas City starting at 10 a.m.
Those expected to attend the summit include County and City elected officials, members of the Galveston
County United Board of Health, representatives from local organizations that
work with senior citizens, and local individuals interested in services provided
to seniors in Galveston County.
“We encourage all seniors
and those that are interested in senior services to attend the summit,” says Dr.
Mark Guidry the Health District’s Chief Executive Officer. “We work closely
with community partners to address the needs of many populations and we are
looking forward to this opportunity that hopefully will assist us in addressing
the needs of local senior citizens.”
Officials expect to
gather valuable information to assist in identifying senior health issues as
part of its Strategic Health Plan priority for Senior Health improvements. The
senior health initiative at the District is overseen by a Senior Health Advisory
Council and the United Board of Health. Included in the Summit
agenda is an update on emergency management goals to address special needs
during evacuations. A public feedback session will also be conducted and plans
are being made to provide flu shots and other health screenings to participants
through
2 p.m.
The District’s ongoing
Strategic Health Plan is a tool that is designed to make measurable improvements
in the health of Galveston County through the year 2010. Services provided to
senior citizens are a priority in the Plan. More information can be found at
