District Volunteers Recognized Press Release
April 15, 2005On Tuesday, April 19th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM the Galveston County
Health District will host a reception to honor its volunteers. The reception
will take place in the Auditorium at the Health District’s Walter and Helen Hall
Environmental Building located at 1205 Oak Street in La Marque. An interesting
program is in store with a skit, refreshments, and gifts for volunteers.
County Judge Jim Yarbrough will be on hand to welcome attendees at this event as
well as John Castaneda, Executive Director of Mainland Communities United Way;
and Dr. Mark Guidry, Chief Executive Officer for the Health District and
Galveston County Health Authority.
The Health District volunteer program was born out of a grant from the Mainland
Communities United Way in April 2004. Since its inception, over 118 volunteers
have donated over 8,614 hours to various Health District programs and service
areas.The Health District has many volunteer opportunities in programs such as
Administration, Animal Services, Community Health Nursing, Environmental
Programs the 4 Cs Clinic, and Public Health Preparedness. You can volunteer to
serve for special events, on a regular basis, or as often or as little as you
