La Marque – To better serve the public beginning October 18th the Galveston County Health District will move flu vaccination sites on the Mainland to its Headquarters in La Marque on 1207 Oak Street. The Texas City Immunization Clinic at 2000 Texas Avenue, and the Dickinson Clinic at 905 Pine Drive will both relocate to La Marque allowing easier access for those in high risk groups seeking a flu shot. Flu shots will be given at the La Marque location from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily while vaccine supplies are available.

The Galveston Immunization Clinic located in the Island Community Center at 4700 Broadway will continue to provide flu shots as usual.

Susan Studebaker, R.N., Director of Community Health Programs for the District states, “We have received some additional vaccine needed to vaccinate more of the highest risk groups in Galveston County.”

Under the interim guidelines issued in the wake of a vaccine shortage the following priority groups may receive a flu vaccination from the Galveston County Health District:

  • All children aged 6-23 months;
  • Adults 65 years and older;
  • Persons aged 2-64 years with underlying chronic conditions;
  • All women who will be pregnant during the influenza season;
  • Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities;
  • Children aged 6 months – 18 years on chronic aspiring therapy;
  • Health-care workers involved in direct patient care; and
  • Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children less that six months old.

“We will make every effort to serve as many citizens in the high risk groups that we possibly can,” says Studebaker. “We appreciate the support and understanding of citizens not at high risk to assure that those at greatest risk may get protected from the flu and its consequences.”
