Texas City
– The Friends of the Galveston County
Animal Shelter will present an Adopt-a-thon
and open house on Saturday at the Galveston
County Health District Animal Shelter
in Texas City.
In conjunction with National
Homeless Animals Day, the event will offer
people and families the opportunity to
adopt pets - dogs, cats, puppies and kittens
and receive tips on pet care and feeding.
Information also will be
available on low-cost spaying and neutering
programs and free product samples, as
well as information on how to become a
foster parent to homeless animals or a
volunteer.
Any animals adopted during
this event will be given a free exam,
donated by a local animal hospital, and
two months of free pet insurance through
PetFinder.com.
The day's activities include
a silent auction and hourly door prizes.
Refreshments and crafts will be available
for purchase.
The Adopt-a-thon will be
from noon to 7 p.m. at 3412 Loop 197 N.
More than 8,100 animals are
put to death each year in Galveston County
animal shelters.
Although volunteers are needed
to help at the shelter, adoptions are
needed to help find these animals a home.
The Galveston County Health
District Animal Shelter serves most cities
in the county by offering adoptions, stray
pick up and investigation of animal complaints.
