It's safe to go in the water
again, the Galveston County Health District says.
The district has lifted "no swimming"
advisories for three area beaches after samples of beach
water taken Monday showed normal or safe levels of bacteria.
The health officials originally issued the
advisories for beaches on Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula
after high bacterial levels were found. The high levels
were found in Gulf of Mexico waters near Eight Mile Road
and on a portion of East Beach on Galveston Island, as well
as near Rollover Pass on the Bolivar Peninsula.
Officials said the most likely reason for
the higher count was recent heavy rains and runoff of fecal
material into the area waterways.
