New Animal Services Manager

Press Release
05/25/04
Published in Galveston Daily News 5/26/04

La Marque – Today the Galveston County Health District announced the appointment of a new Manager of Animal Services. After an extensive search throughout the area Michele Reynolds was selected to fill the position.

Reynolds has experience in providing animal services having previously served as the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Southeast Texas in Beaumont. She also serves on the board of the Second Chance Pets All-Breed Animal Rescue.

Reynolds’ recognizes the challenges Galveston County faces in managing the area animal population and states, “I want to work closely with local veterinarians and animal rescue agencies to establish a program promoting the spaying and neutering of animals prior to adoption.”

Additionally she would also like to see the Joe Vickery Animal Shelter located in Texas City open for adoptions on Saturdays as well as staying open late during one weekday evening. “We are striving to increase the number of animals at the shelter that are placed in loving homes in need of loving pets”, shares Reynolds.

Ronnie Schultz, Director of Environmental Health Programs at the District says, “We are excited to have someone of Michele’s quality join our team at the Galveston County Health District. As part of our Strategic Health Plan we have embarked on a mission to improve the animal services provided to contracted cities and we feel that Michele will help us accomplish this goal.”

Included in the effort to improve animal services a new taskforce is being formed that will review the operations of the Animal Services Advisory Committee in addition to animal field services and the animal shelter. “We look forward to Michele working closely with the new committee to bring about some very positive changes,” added Schultz.
