Conference Attendees Report Illness

Galveston— An outbreak
of gastroenteritis among people who recently attended a
conference of the National Trooper Coalition was reported
to the Galveston County Health District.
The conference in Galveston
was sponsored by the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers’
Association.
Thirty-seven cases of diarrhea
and vomiting have been reported to Chuck Chambers, the health
district epidemiologist.
One person who attended the
conference was hospitalized, but no deaths had been reported.
The health district is investigating
to determine what caused the illnesses. Environmental inspectors
are investigating possible sources of food contamination.
People who attended the conference
and became ill with diarrhea and vomiting are advised to
contact the health district’s Epidemiology Department
at (409) 765-2514. The district recommended that sick people
seek medical care.
