The Galveston County Health District announced
the appointment of two new directors Friday to oversee the
4Cs medical and dental clinics.Dr. Abdul-Aziz Alhassan began serving as 4Cs
medical director Feb. 26, while Dr. Beverly M. Foster was
named director of the 4Cs Dental Clinic.
Alhassan is a board-certified family physician who completed
his medical education in Mexico and his family practice
residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.Alhassan said he hoped to improve access to health care for the uninsured and
underinsured.
Foster, a Hitchcock native, received her dental
degree from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry
in Washington D.C. and has more than 10 years of experience
as a licensed dentist. “It is always nice when a person
can return to the community that they were raised in,”
she said.
Foster said she would improve the appointment
system at the county’s dental clinics. “I realize
that many people have a need for dental care and I intend
to evaluate our operations to insure that we can provide those
services people most often find themselves in need of,”
Foster said.
Dr. Mark Guidry, who heads the county health
district, said patients were the top priority.“Ultimately one measure of any medical
clinic’s success is how well its leaders respond to
patients’ needs,” said Guidry. “We feel
that these two directors are top quality and will bring patient-focused
leadership needed to improve the medical and dental services
offered through the 4Cs clinics.”
The clinics provide primary health and
dental care to area residents who have limited access because
they lack sufficient financial resources and health insurance.
