Animal Summit Recap/Recommendations
03/30/04
La Marque: Officials with the Galveston
County Health District are examining ways to improve animal
services activities conducted by the District. As part of
this effort an Animal Services Summit will be held March 30th
at the Wayne Johnson Community Center (Carbide Park), 4102
Main Street, La Marque, in the community room. The Summit
will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Those expected to attend the Summit include
County and City elected officials, members of the Galveston
County United Board of Health, members of the Galveston County
Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, and local individuals interested
in animal services provided in Galveston County.
The purpose of the Summit is to outline the
Health District’s plans to improve existing services
within available resources, and to hear community ideas and
perspectives regarding the need for short-term or long-term
improvements in animal services.
The Health District recently implemented a
seven year “Strategic Health Plan” that is designed
to make measurable improvements in the health of Galveston
County. Priority six of the plan calls for improvements in
environmental health. The animal services program at the District
is managed by the Environmental Programs department.
