The Public Health Laboratory is a certified Texas Department of State Health Services Regional Laboratory. To maintain state certification the lab undergoes rigorous inspections and maintains a complete QA/QC program on a daily basis. In addition to the Environmental Lab and a Wastewater Lab, we also maintain and operate the the Health District's Air and Water Pollution Chemical Laboratory.

We support the Environmental Consumer Health's food service program through bacteriological testing of food(s).

Bacteriological testing on (private well) drinking water, swimming pool water, waste water treatment plant discharge water and ambient water quality is available on a daily basis, with results available after 10am the next day. Information and supplies necessary for gathering samples are available in the environmental building, 1205 Oak Street, La Marque.

A sterile container can be obtained from the Health Department, along with a request form. Samples can be brought to the Health Department, Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and must be brought in within 30 hours after water is collected. Samples require 24 hours incubation and results are reported the following day and mailed to client. Information is sent with any positive results, explaining how to disinfect the well. Fees (listed below) are for each sample

Collection Procedure:
Disconnect any hoses, filters or other devices from faucet. Let water flow for 3 minutes, to clear the line. Then sterilize the faucet with a lighter, torch etc. Reduce the flow to slow and collect water into the sterile container. Be sure not to touch the inside of the bottle or lid. Fill the container and secure the lid tightly and transport to the Health Department

Samples must be brought to the lab by 4pm in order to receive next day results.
