Consumer Health provides permitting and inspections of animal
establishments to reduce the possibility of nuisance problems
and cruelty issues related to housing and maintaining animals.
This program is actually part of the Health District's Rules
for Animal Control (pdf). Establishments permitted by
this office include kennels, pet shops, grooming facilities,
riding stables, and zoos. To facilitate this process, the
Construction Standards for Animal
Establishments were implemented. Hobby kennels are not
held at the same construction standards as commercial establishments,
but are regulated to reduce nuisance and cruelty concerns.
Permitting Fees and Inspections
Annual inspections and permitting assures
that standards are maintained for each of these facilities.
