| The Senior
Health Advisory Council is a group of individuals and
agency representatives who meet on a regular basis with
a mission to:
“Provide
a Link for Galveston County Senior Citizens to Health
and Social Services.” This Council was formed
as a way to address the Galveston County Health District's
Strategic Health Plan
Priority on Senior Health. The Council has identified
two main priorities for 2004 - 2005:
Priority
Area #1: Promote wellness, fitness, and
prevention of health problems/diseases and enable seniors
to live independently in their homes as long as possible.
Activities
- A senior community needs assessment
and
- The linking of senior citizens
to appropriate community services.
Priority
Area #2: Improve the way we communicate
with seniors and their caregivers, and make health care
services affordable.
