The
history of ImmTrac
ImmTrac came into being as a response to a serious
public health problem. Measles cases took a dramatic
and costly upswing between 1989-1991, with over 55,000
cases reported nationwide. The outbreak resulted in an
estimated 11,000 hospitalizations and 130 deaths. The
measles resurgence was attributed primarily to a
failure to vaccinate preschool-aged children on time,
in this case early during the second year of life.
According to Dr. David Smith, then Texas Commissioner
of Health, Texas reported 9,400 measles cases and 26
deaths associated with measles between 1988 and 1992
What is ImmTrac?
With the consent of the parent, the ImmTrac database
receives vaccination information for a child from
across the state, including input from the Bureau of
Vital Statistics, Women, Infant and Children (WIC)
clinics, Medicaid, the Integrated Client Encounter
System (ICES), and private health care providers. The system is designed to track and maintain immunization records and to provide
statistics on children who have not received vaccinations. To encourage parents
to get their children immunized, the Health District sends out a post card to
remind the parents of upcoming immunizations, and another if the child did not
receive the required vaccination by the suggested immunization date.
How important is ImmTrac?
Providers authorized to use ImmTrac can see what
immunizations your child has received, even if they
were given in another city or county. when your child
comes in for shots, he or she only gets what is
necessary.
How to Request an Immunization
Record from ImmTrac
Only authorized healthcare providers, schools,
and licensed child-care facilities can request a copy
of an immunization record from ImmTrac. If you
have lost or misplaced your child's shot record, you
can go to one of our clinics in
Texas City or
Galveston, the main office in
La Marque, or any
authorized health care provider and for a small fee,
have the immunization record printed.
How a Healthcare provider can
register with ImmTrac
ImmTrac offers two options for direct access to
Texas’ Immunization registry: (1) the ImmTrac Web
Application; and (2) the ImmTrac Client/Server
Application. ImmTrac also offers providers without
computer access a means of reporting immunization
information using the ImmTrac Paper Reporting Form.

How is confidentiality of the immunization database
maintained?
- Adding new records requires written parental
consent.
- Computer access is limited to providers of
immunizations or those with a legal mandate to
review records.
- Security privileges are controlled by a
Database Administrator at DSHS.
- Each user of the system is given an
identification name and password.*
- Demographic information is not released with
immunization histories.
* Each computer that is used in a
facility to access the ImmTrac database must be
activated by ImmTrac. The registration
process leaves information on the computer, called a
"cookie". If the cookies are deleted from the
computer, you must call to get a new activation number
for that computer. This should not take longer than a
few minutes. (click

security issues).
Can ImmTrac be accessed from anther state?
Most states have their own immunization registry, but
unfortunately can not be accessed from other states. |
