The Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) / Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Control Services include educating the public, investigating sexually transmitted diseases, and assisting individuals in obtaining diagnostic and treatment services.
Federal funds channeled through the Texas Department of State Health Services are administered by the Galveston County Health District to provide STD/HIV outreach services in Galveston, Brazoria and Chambers Counties.
Services offered through the program include:
- Community education and outreach about the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS
- STD/HIV education at Health Fairs and community events. Download request form here
- Community outreach testing for HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis C
- Contacting sex partners of people who have tested positive for a STD/HIV disease for examination and treatment
- Assisting individuals in obtaining examinations, diagnosis and treatment (if necessary)
The STD/HIV Control Services office is located in the Island Community Center, 4700 Broadway, Suite C-113, Galveston, and staff may be reached at 409-765-2594, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm . Outreach activities are offered as requested after hours and on weekends.
Community partners include: Coastal Health & Wellness, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, St. Vincent’s House, The Gulf Coast Center, Jesse Tree, Brazoria County Health Dept, Chambers County Health Dept, ACCT, Teen Health Clinics, Galveston County Jail, Brazoria County Jail, Health District Community Health Nursing, Health District TB Program, Dept. of State Health Services, Private Providers and TDCJ.
