Picking Up the Pace
An Environmental and Consumer Health Summit was held September 11, 2003 at the Health District's La Marque office. On hand to greet the participants was County Commissioner Ken Clark. In addition to the Health District staff, attendees for this final summit meeting in the Strategic Health Plan for Galveston County included representatives of large and small local  community businesses, residents of several local communities, and the Texas Department of Health.

Another Step in the Strategic Health Plan for Galveston County
Dr. Ben Raimer, members of the community and Health District staff held an "Immunization Summit" on July 15th to outline goals and objectives for immunizing both children and adults of Galveston County. Commissioner Holmes welcomed the group and expressed his support of having immunization as one of the Health District's priorities. This is one of  eight priorities in the Draft List of Health Priorities of the Strategic Health Plan.

Mr. John Zendt, Chair, United Board of Health, secured meeting space for the First Step in the Strategic Health Plan for Galveston County at Moody Gardens in Galveston. Mary Anne Holcomb, Secretary/Treasurer on the United Board of Health, graciously invited the Health District to participate and distribute information at the "First Common Threads Diversity Fair and Campus Celebration", held July 28, 2003 at UTMB.
Attendees seemed so eager to read the information detailing the "Draft Health Priorities", that the flyers were distributed long before the event was finished!
Kathrine Wiggins, Human Resources Director, and Kurt Koopmann, Public Information Officer, represented the Health District, handing out flyers and pamphlets.
