United Board of Health Member Dr. Patricia A. Rogers was recently accepted into UTMB's Academy of Master Teachers.  The Academy is an honorary service organization established to embrace a set of standards for excellence in teaching and scholarship in education, to recognize master educators and to provide guidance and mentorship in teaching skills to interested UTMB faculty members.  Congratulations, Dr. Rogers!!


 

 

United Board of Health member Dr. Bernard Milstein was recently named a Texas Super Doctor in the December 2007 issue of Texas Monthly.  Key professional media and publishers of Texas Monthly selected the doctors.  


Dr Ben Raimer-Vice Chairperson

 

United Board of Health Vice Chairperson Dr. Ben Raimer with GCHD Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mark Guidry were recently named Lead Czars to address the issue of elevated blood lead levels in Galveston children.  As Czars they will be facilitating meetings and drawing together community stakeholders in an effort to identify resources and actions that may be taken create a healthier community. 


Bazaman  resigns after three years

Winnike resigns after five years

Dr Ben Raimer-Vice Chairperson

 

United Board of Health Vice Chairperson Dr. Ben Raimer also serves as Chairman of the Board for the Galveston Chamber of Commerce.  In a recent letter to members he outlined recent Chamber activities.  In the letter he stated, "We are firm in our belief that the Chamber must support those issues that are deemed "right" for business growth, retention and success.  To that end, we work to serve our members"


On April 4th, during  National Public Health Week, the Health District honored local businesses, organizations and individuals in the community that do an exceptional job of contributing to the public's health.

Steven Leach, a United Board of Health member assisted with the award presentations, and Willie Tolivar, a Governing Board member, was the recipient of an award!

United Board of Health Vice Chair Dr. Ben G. Raimer (left)  was a panel member one one of the breakout sessions at the 82nd Annual TPHA Conference held in Galveston February 25-27.

United Board of Health Vice Chair Dr. Ben G. Raimer  was named the recipient of the 2007 Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award
by the Galveston Kingfest Committee.  "I consider this one of the most distinctive honors that I have ever received," Raimer said.

United Board of Health member Dr. Bernard Milstein, addressed issues concerning UTMB in a two part guest column published January 6th and 7th in the Galveston Daily News.
Dr. Milstein is an ophthalmologist in private practice in addition to being a member of the United Board of Health.



Mary Anne Holcombe, Secretary/Treasurer of the United Board of Health and head of the Finance Committee, will be presented with a Certificate of Achievement Award at the February 2007 Texas Municipal League (TML) meeting.
Mary Anne is also a Councilperson for the City of Kemah and received recognition in 2004 from the TML as Councilperson for the City of Kemah.
