"Vaccination is essential for our children"

"Vaccines work; they are superb, cost-effective tools to prevent disease."
Dr Ben Raimer stated in a guest column he wrote for the Galveston Daily News and printed April 20, 2006. This was in reference to National Infant Immunization Week, April 22-29. He also stated  "I welcome the opportunity to participate as a member of the district's immunization advisory council."  Dr. Raimer, in addition to being the Vice Chair of the United Board of Health, is also a member of the Immunization Advisory Board.


United Board of Health Member Receives Award

Dr Patricia RogersMarch - Congratulations to Dr. Patricia A. Rogers,  who is one of five UTMB faculty physicians who recently received the inaugural "Excellence in Clinical Teaching"  award from UTMB's John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine.  Dr. Rogers received this award for her "exceptional skill in teaching the art of compassionate patient care to medical students in actual clinical settings"In 2005  Dr. Rogers received UTMB's Martin Luther King Jr. Award and the Golden Rattle Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching from the Dept. of Pediatrics house staff. Board Member Supports Smoke-free Restaurants


Mary Anne Holcomb, Secretary-Treasurer of the United Board of Health, spoke out in favor of smoke-free restaurants in Galveston. "We all know that smoking is bad for us, and that it kills". Mary Anne outlined the benefits of a smoke free environment for workers, their families and visitors.
Mary Anne, also a Kemah City councilperson, said  "Kemah certainly hasn't had a problem since passing theirs (smoke free ordinance)"
