Coastal Health & Wellness works to Correct Practices

Post Date:03/23/2018 7:16 PM

Galveston County, Texas – Following the recent accreditation survey, there were revelations about infection control practices at the Coastal Health & Wellness Clinics in Galveston and Texas City. As a result, an investigation was triggered by the Galveston County Health District (GCHD) under the authority of Dr. Philip Keiser, Galveston County Local Health Authority.  We are fully committed to the safety and well-being of our patients and employees. Coastal Health & Wellness (CHW) is fully cooperating with Galveston County Health District in the investigation.

“Although we have no evidence at this time that disease transmission has taken place from procedures that were performed at Coastal Health & Wellness,” Said Dr. Keiser.
“We want to err on the side of caution and offer testing to any patients who could have been impacted.”

To date, no specific infections have been linked to the CHW clinics.

Leadership and staff are committed to improving our processes to ensure quality patient care.  The infection control concerns have been addressed and we have made great strides in honing infection control practices.

“Patient safety is our highest priority,” said Dr. Milton Howard of the CHW Governing Board.

“We want to ensure we take every precaution to follow infection control best practices in order to protect the health and safety of all patients and employees at Coastal Health & Wellness.”

Coastal Health & Wellness staff have been working diligently to correct any deficiencies and redesign processes. We are committed to assuring that quality and infection control standards are met, so that all services can be resumed as soon as possible, said Mary McClure, Executive Director.
